yet, i think there are over 3000 recognised phobias in the western world..

I must agree with Brandon here.

I believe that where the Paul speaks about how tongues will not be able to be understood by the unaquainted in the congregation, he is not talking about using relevant "jargon" but I think he actually means tongues - A language that is not understandable at all to those present.

Furthermore, I'm convinced that worship music or songs sung in church are supposed songs that are written in worship of God (True worshippers will worship the Father in Spirit and in Truth [John 4:24]) and for no one else. (Yet, you are holy, enthroned on the praises of Israel [Psalm 22:3])

I also think that words are useless in drawing people to Christ if the Spirit of God is not present to convict them (No one can say that Jesus is Lord except by the Holy Spirit [1 Cor 12:3]; When He [Holy Spirit] comes, He will convict the world of sin, righteousness, and judgment [John 16:8]). The Word of God also does this Job of convicting (For the Word of God is living and powerful, and sharper than any two-edged sword, piercing even to the division of soul and spirit, and of joints and marrow, and is a discerner of the thoughts and intents of the heart. [Hebrews 4:12]).

When people worship Jesus passionately in a known language those who do not know Him will be brought to a crossroad of decision. And I have seen that people follow passion - not relevant chatter. (How can one who finds himself among those who do not understand say "Amen" to your thanksgiving) - Say AMEN to your THANKSGIVING?

The other thing is that I don't believe that this passage is even speaking about "Non-Believers" - its speaking about other believers who have not spoken in tongues. Why else would they require to be "edified"? The Bible is clear about the fact that a non-believer or "inquirer" is not a part of the Body of Christ.

Finally, We know that the Church is not a service.

The Church of Jesus, in my view, only gathers in buildings in order to equip the believers to BE the church (And he gave some, apostles; and some, prophets; and some, evangelists; and some, pastors and teachers; For the PERFECTING OF THE SAINTS, FOR THE WORK OF THE MINISTRY, for the edifying of the body of Christ [Ephesians 4:11-13]).

The way we "reach" the lost - is through passionate Love, for Jesus, and for them.

I agree with what you say here.

But then my question is, where and when should we have the "make-out session?" Because singing lyrics that non-believers do not understand can still be a very meaningful and powerful experience for those who do understand. (The opening lyric to a David Crowder song says "And he set me on fire, and I am burning alive")

Your observations are meaningful and important, but we still need a balanced solution to this issue. In our organized Sunday morning music times, we cannot simply throw away all music that doesn't communicate directly to non-believers. (I'm not sure if that is what you are suggesting??)

Honestly, I don't have a direct solution right now either, but I'm looking for one.

For me personally, when I focus on changing the world, I get overwhelmed and feel quite helpless, because the truth is, I can't change the world..... I can only change my world (meaning, my sphere of influence). When I focus on that, the task becomes more feasible and more realistic.

But as you say dude, some people do write worship songs for the "market" or for the church, which is missing the point completely. Its part of the commercial christianity that has emerged in the last decades, of which I don't think God wants anything to do with.

"Yet a time is coming and has now come when the true worshippers will worship the Father in spirit and truth, for they are the kind of worshippers the Father seeks." (John 4:23)
