By now everybody is probably aware of the book of the same title by the American presidential candidate, Barack Obama.

Obama basically contends that hope is in its very nature audacious, in the sense that it doesn't really takes into account the reality of the situation. You could also say that hope is almost arrogant! Hope believes and stays positive contrary to and in spite of its current reality.

In short, hope doesn't get confused by the facts!

Its almost as if every person who hopes, needs to suffer from a mild case of dissociation from reality. Hope does not take into account the statistics, the news, the rumours or the realities.

Hope just hopes anyway.

Hope doesn't stay positive because of positive circumstances, hope owes its very existence to a positive attitude amidst negative circumstances! That's why our reason for hope is almost never connected to our current experiences.

We hope in spite of our circumstances.

If faith is defined by believing without seeing what has been promised, hope can be defined as having faith despite seeing what has been produced.

What do you hope for? In spite of what do you keep on hoping?
